About the Child Study Team
Hampton Borough offers the services of a Child Study Team. The team consists of:
- a learning disability teacher/consultant
- a psychologist
- a social worker
- a speech/language specialist for preschoolers
The team’s responsibilities include identification, evaluation, classification, and remediation for children with developmental learning or behavior problems. The child is brought to the attention of the team by the Intervention and Referral Services Committee (I&RS), a parent, or physician. The Child Study Team also participates in staffing with teachers, principals, and parents to discuss their evaluative study, methods to remediate identified problems, and techniques to benefit the child. All records are available to parents.
Child Study Team Members
- Colleen Andrade, CST Coordinator
- Courtney Scherer, School Psychologist
- Amy Puppo, LDTC
- Thea Anaston, School Social Worker
The Child Study Team provides testing, case management, and support for our Special Education students and families. They are available on Wednesdays during the school year.
Preschool Disabled Program
Educational Services for Preschool Disabled Children residing in the Hampton Borough School District are available by law and by conscience to provide educational services to identified disabled children ages 3 to 5. These services are provided in an inclusionary preschool program where students are taught alongside typically developing peers. Parents who suspect their preschool age child may have a disability are encouraged to contact the Child Study Team for free assistance and direction.
Special Education Programs
Our Special Education programs provide for students with disabilities to be enrolled in the least restrictive possible environment. Our programs and services include resource centers where students receive specialized instruction that helps them to achieve success in the general education classroom. We also provide a range of in-class support options that range from some additional assistance in the class to a true team teaching model. Certified special education teachers with a wide variety of training and experiences provide all Special Education instruction.
Students are eligible for services when they are appropriately classified according to State and Federal guidelines. A prescribed individual educational plan (IEP) which indicates the most appropriate placement for the student and the type and frequency of services to be provided is developed by the Child Study Team. This plan is developed in a team effort with the appropriate teachers, child study team members, and parents.
Hampton Borough School District also offers dynamic programs for students with autism and with specific behavioral disabilities. In addition to our own resident students, we open our doors to students from other districts where these specialized classroom environments are not available to meet their educational goals.
